I founded Move Move because I’ve been there, done that… twice. I’ve suffered chronic pain, felt like an 80 year old in a 40 year old’s body.
For years I just put up with pain, trudged off to an office for 8 or more hours a day, dosed myself up when it got really bad and just accepted it as the way things were. I usually had a headache, telling myself and others that I was just a headachy person, every few months I’d get a cluster migraine which would put me out of action for days over a two week period. My left shoulder ached all the time with regular bouts of agony. All the while I was going to the gym regularly, eating reasonably healthy (most of the time!) and not seeing any change in my body.
Having become bored of the gym I tried a Studio Pilates class. And couldn’t believe how hard it was, and how good I felt after. The level of detail involved in getting the movements right appealed to my analytical brain so much more than the go harder, go faster gym mentality I was used to. After a few sessions I was well and truly hooked.
My headaches became less, my shoulder stopped hurting entirely, I had more energy, less aches and a brand new lease on life.
I signed up at a new Pilates studio and found out they offered instructor training courses. Super inspired by my Pilates experience and fed-up with the corporate rat-race I took the courses. A year later I was a fully certified Stott Pilates instructor teaching Pilates in a number of studios in Melbourne. 6 months after that I opened my own studio in Albert Park, Pilates by Lou. My dream was to share my passion for Pilates with others and help them in the same way it had helped me.
Things were great, until the pain started up again. I had a permanent headache, I ached everywhere, I was exhausted all the time. I didn’t have the energy to do Pilates, I was taking a nanna nap almost everyday. After 18 months I was diagnosed with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. It took another 12 months of hard work to feel human again. Pilates played a big part in this, it was gentle enough for me to do without over exerting myself. I could easily adjust how hard I worked around my symptoms. I worked with amazing teachers who helped me find my way again. I’m not perfect but I am a work-in-progress!
I relocated the studio and rebranded as The Movement Movement in early 2015. I believe that my experiences with chronic pain give me a unique perspective to help others in the same situation. By helping you learn about your body, how it processes pain and what you can do to help yourself I want to work with you to reduce your pain.
