Pilates Reformer Splits at The Movement Movement Moorabbin

Each month at Move Move we set ourselves a Move of the Month Challenge. Throughout the month we focus on mastering that move. Sometimes our Move of the Month is just one move, other times it maybe a series of moves. But our aim is to progress in some way.

Our Move of the Month for May is Reformer Splits. Throughout the month we’ll be working on our Front, Back and Side Splits. From the basic prep variations through to some super challenging advanced versions.

Splits on the Reformer challenge your balance, control, and stability whilst working your legs and butt.

When I’m not in the studio I’ll be practising my balance and lunges to help me with my splits. Challenging your balance is fantastic for your body and mind, here are a few suggestions:

  • Stand on one leg – see how long you can balance for then challenge yourself by rising up on to tiptoes or closing your eyes.
  • Tippy bird – raise one leg behind you and tip your body forward – how far can you get keeping a straight back and one line from your head to your raised heel?
  • Use unstable surfaces – practising balancing on uneven or unstable surfaces. Even just balancing on a thin mat can be much more challenging than on the floor.
